Thanks for the tip re Kakulas - I usually take my produce bags but they're not suitable for some things - will definitely try the extra container trick :)

Will be lovely to see you on the weekend if you can make it! :)

Cheers, Kerry

Hi Amelia,

So lovely to hear from you! I can't believe it's been a year already and I do so miss the Greenwood WP. I remember being so excited to explore your lovely space when it first opened and loved the wonderful culture you'd built within the store & the staff - it really felt like such a nurturing place and is much missed.

I keep meaning to visit the Bassendean store but haven't made it there yet! I tend to buy the bulk foods I get from either Weigh n Pay in Woodlands, (though it's out of my usual way so have to make a special trip) or occasionally Kakulas' Sister {though they still use plastic bags!! :( } as it's on my way to a friend's place.

Still working to further improve our waste reduction but happy to find that most weeks we have one very small bag for the red topped landfill bin - bones, plastic meat packaging & the dreaded & frustrating soft plastics are the usual culprits. Working on reducing further.

Lovely to hear you're spending more time on yourself & especially in the garden (my happy place!) I love Dsatco mulches & Greendlife Soil products too & was happy to find Poo4You in Canham Way Greenwood now stocks them both along with locally grown seeds from Thrive Sustainability. And the added bonus of supporting a family run small business ;)

The main problem I find with gardening products is again the plastic packaging waste. I'd love to be able to purchase the bulk bags but finding somewhere to store it always the challenge. Recently a couple of friends & I have discussed the possibility of sharing a bulk delivery or trailer loads of potting mix or mulch.

I'm growing more edibles at home but also at the Hamersley Habitat Community Garden where I'm one of the regular maintenance volunteer gardeners - such a gorgeous little oasis close to home :) (opposite the Warwick shops). We're holding an open day this Saturday 21st & I'd highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already!

My other little volunteer job is with St Nic's recycling hub in Duncraig once a month. Redirecting many of the tricky-to-recycle bits & pieces (including plastic plant pots!) & hopefully helping to educate folks on waste reduction & effective recycling.

Great to hear that you've been able to recharge the batteries and take some time for yourself. I look forward to hearing from you again & what you get up to next!

Thanks for being a shining light & spreading some love & kindness.

Cheers, Kerry

Hi Kerry! What a lovely wonderful update. I’m hoping to make it to the recycling hub and the Hamersley event this weekend 🤞

I have heard that, if you take a spare container the same size as the ones you are filling, the team at Kakulas sisters can use it to tare their scales and you can refill without the plastic bags 🤩

Thanks for the tip aboit canham way business- I’ll check them out !

Maybe Seeya this weekend! 😀

Hi Amelia, nice to hear from you. You're always so busy and creatively constructive... thanks for all the household tip. I'm still playing music occasionally at the Folk and Roots Club in Inglewood. I also do recording and video creation. Here is my latest song and video. If you like it, please share with as many people as possible:

Hi Amelia

So lovely to hear what you are doing now. For me, still working on the reduce, re-use, re-purpose... But spending more time in the garden & growing more edible native plants/trees.

Regards

Lee

Gardening is fairly new to me (past 10years?) Lots of trials (& failures 🤣)

So growing a few native herbs (rosemary, thyme, mint); lots of native spinach (grows like a weed! lol); native fruit & berries (lilly pilly, midyim berries); finger limes, sandpaper fig (in a pot). & a macadamia! So far I ve had some midyim berries and 1 lime 😁. Then there's the regular lemon, orange, olive, dwarf almond trees & grape vine.

I find every minute that I spend in the garden relaxing 😍, even digging holes or pulling weeds.

What have been your successes & challenges in the garden?

Sounds wonderful!! We’ve had success with citrus and have managed to get tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, beans, silver wet, beetroot, leeks and carrots. I’ve also planted apple, mango and v mulberry trees so hoping this year we’ll get some fruit. For some reason I can’t grow peas!! I’m loving it. Xx
